Privacy Policy for FocusZen
FocusZen is operated by ZeroXbyte. This policy explains how information is handled when you use the FocusZen mobile application.
com.zeroxbyte.focuszen1. Information We Collect
A. Account & Profile Information
When you optionally create or connect an account using Google Sign-In, we collect your email address, display name, and avatar image through Google Firebase Authentication to verify your identity.
B. Focus, Habit & Wellness Data
We process the focus, distraction-blocking, and digital wellness data you generate within the app, such as:
- Focus session durations, tags, start/end timestamps, and streak milestones.
- Custom app blocking lists, website/keyword blocklists, and daily app usage limits.
- Daily wellness logs (breathing exercises, hydration reminders, and power nap alarms).
- Application preferences, theme settings, and PIN protection states.
2. Guest and Local Data
FocusZen is architected as an offline-first application. When you use FocusZen as a guest without signing into a cloud account:
- All your focus records, statistics, and blocking rules are stored strictly in private, sandboxed local device storage (AsyncStorage and SQLite).
- Your records are never uploaded to ZeroXbyte servers or external cloud services.
3. Cloud Accounts and Synchronization
If you choose to sign in to a cloud account:
- Google Firebase Authentication securely manages your sign-in credentials.
- Your focus metrics and app configurations are securely stored and synced across your authorized devices using Google Firebase.
- A local cache remains on your device to ensure continuous offline access.
4. How We Use Information
We use collected information strictly to:
- Authenticate your identity securely.
- Enforce your personalized focus sessions, app blocking rules, and daily usage limits.
- Calculate digital wellbeing statistics, productivity insights, and streak badges.
- Synchronize your settings and restore app preferences across your devices.
- Deliver local reminders and notification alerts that you have explicitly enabled.
- Provide technical customer support and maintain application stability.
5. Android Permissions & System Features
To enforce distraction blocks and run precise focus timers, FocusZen requests specific Android system permissions with strict boundaries:
A. Accessibility Service (android.permission.BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE)
Purpose: FocusZen uses the Accessibility Service API (FocusZenAccessibilityService) solely to detect when a user-designated blocked application, URL, or keyword enters the foreground during an active focus session or after a daily limit has been exceeded, and display the FocusZen focus shield.
- It never reads personal messages, chats, emails, or notes.
- It never logs or monitors keystrokes (no keylogger functionality).
- It never accesses passwords, credit card numbers, or banking credentials.
- It never transmits screen contents or accessibility events over the internet.
B. Usage Access (android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS / android.permission.QUERY_USAGE_STATS)
Purpose: Queries Android's native UsageStatsManager strictly on-device to compute real-time app screen time and enforce daily time allowances. Data never leaves your smartphone.
C. Display Over Other Apps (android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW)
Purpose: Required to present the full-screen focus shield and power nap alarm overlays when a restricted application is opened.
D. Exact Alarms (android.permission.SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM, android.permission.USE_EXACT_ALARM)
Purpose: Ensures millisecond-accurate timer completions, break chimes, and power nap alarms even when your phone is in deep sleep (Android Doze mode).
E. Post Notifications (android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS)
Purpose: Dispatches local reminders for session completions, hydration intervals, and streak alerts.
F. Ignore Battery Optimizations (android.permission.REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS)
Purpose: Prevents aggressive vendor task killers from prematurely stopping active focus timers and blocking monitors.
6. Sharing and Service Providers
We do not sell your personal or focus data. FocusZen does not display third-party advertisements.
Third-party service providers include:
- Google Firebase: Powers optional authentication and cloud backup synchronization on our behalf.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
- Local Data: Remains on your phone until you clear app storage, reset data in Settings, or uninstall the app.
- Local Export & Reset: You can export a complete JSON backup at any time from Settings > Data & Backup, or tap Reset All Local Data to wipe your local database instantly.
How to Request Account & Cloud Data Deletion:
To request deletion of your FocusZen cloud account and all associated synchronized records:
- Send an email to zeroxbyte.developer@gmail.com from the email address registered with your FocusZen account.
- Specify "FocusZen Account Deletion Request" in the subject line.
- Your account credentials and synced cloud records will be permanently expunged within 30 days following verification of ownership.
8. Security
We enforce strict access controls and encrypted network connections (HTTPS/TLS) provided by Firebase and Android OS sandboxing. Additionally, FocusZen includes built-in PIN protection to prevent unauthorized access on shared devices.
While industry-standard security safeguards are applied, no wireless transmission or cloud storage is 100% impenetrable, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
9. Children's Privacy
FocusZen is not directed to children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Please contact us immediately if you believe a child has provided personal information to us.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as FocusZen features or regulatory requirements evolve. The effective date at the top of this document identifies the latest revision.
